January 2008 Newsletter NAWCC - Chapter 154 - January 2008 Newsletter.pdf Sunday, November 18, 2007 [Meeting Summary] Meeting Included: Presentation: Wristwatches: Over 100 Years and Still Tickin’ Presenter: Randy Jaye Randy discussied the entire history of the wristwatch including: its humble beginnings as Ladies jewelry in the late 1800s, its rise to fame as a strategic and sturdy timepiece during World War 1, its general public acceptance around the world starting in the 1920s as a personal timepiece for both men and women of all ages, and its emergence as a status symbol and high-tech device. The future of the wristwatch will also be discussed (and you might be surprised at what some “futurists” are predicting.) Randy will demonstrate (show and tell) various examples representing many styles of wristwatches from his own personal collection spanning every decade from the 1880s to the present.

Meeting Included: Presentation: Video Presentation: "Charlie Chaplin -- How NOT to work on clocks" by Jessie McKnight.
Meeting Included: Video Presentation: The Ball Company This is an excellent program of the watches and clocks that were made for the Ball Co., established 1865, to meet railroad specifications. The very fine photography, in excellent detail, shows on the movements and dials Ball's famous trademark "Official RR Standard." Also shown on the movements and dials are abbreviations of "Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers," "Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen," "Order of Railway Conductors," and others. Ball's watches and clocks were made by the finest watch and clock makers of the period. Bill Loomis left the Treasurer's position and Viviane Lindeolsson volunteered to fill the spot.

talk on the history of the Lenzkirch clocks and their makers. Several fine
examples of Lenzkirch clocks were on display [courtesy of Skip Carter.]
